About Kawartha Hill
Advocacy. Compassion. Community. Action.
Kawartha Hill is a community-driven initiative founded on the belief that every human being deserves dignity, compassion, opportunity, and a place to call home.
Our mandate is to advocate for meaningful, lasting solutions to homelessness, poverty, social exclusion, and the challenges facing vulnerable members of our community. We believe that awareness without action is not enough, and that real change requires leadership, collaboration, accountability, and a willingness to confront difficult realities.
We are committed to bringing people, organizations, businesses, community leaders, government, and individuals together to build practical solutions that strengthen our communities and restore hope.
Our Mandate
Kawartha Hill exists to:
Advocate for change — Raise awareness, challenge systemic barriers, and advance meaningful solutions to homelessness, poverty, and social inequality.
Champion human dignity — Stand alongside individuals experiencing hardship and ensure their voices, experiences, and needs are recognized.
Build community partnerships — Bring together municipalities, organizations, businesses, service providers, volunteers, and community members to work toward shared objectives.
Promote innovative solutions — Support initiatives that create housing, stability, employment, opportunity, and pathways toward independence.
Encourage accountability and action — Transform conversations, public awareness, and community concern into measurable progress.
Restore hope and purpose — Help create opportunities for individuals to rebuild their lives, rediscover their strengths, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Foster community responsibility — Encourage the understanding that the well-being of our community is a shared responsibility.
Our Initiatives
Kawartha Moon Villages
Our vision for compassionate, community-based housing is to create safe, dignified, supportive environments where individuals experiencing homelessness can find stability, rebuild their lives, and pursue a future of independence and belonging.
86IT — A Kawartha Hill Initiative
86IT is our community cleanup and beautification initiative, creating meaningful paid employment opportunities for individuals experiencing homelessness and those transitioning out of homelessness. Through purposeful work, we strive to restore our streets, strengthen community pride, and rebuild lives.
Our Guiding Principles
We believe that housing is a fundamental foundation for human dignity. That compassion must be accompanied by practical action. That people deserve opportunities rather than judgment. That communities become stronger when nobody is deliberately left behind.
Our work is spiritually guided by the Holy Spirit, inspiring our commitment to compassion, truth, service, and love. This is a spiritual foundation for our leadership and purpose, not a religious requirement for participation. We welcome people of all beliefs and backgrounds.
Our Vision for Peterborough
We envision a Peterborough that embraces its full potential as:
The City of Hope. The City of Light. The City of Mercy and Compassion. The City of Brotherly Love.
A community where homelessness is met with meaningful solutions, where dignity is restored, where opportunities are created, and where compassion is demonstrated through action.
Our Commitment
Kawartha Hill is committed to standing in the gap between what our community is experiencing and what our community has the potential to become.
We are here to speak up, bring people together, challenge the status quo, and help turn possibility into reality.
We do not simply speak of compassion. We put compassion into action.
Together, we can build a community where hope is not just spoken of, but lived.
